Gerardine is a pharmacologist and chartered accountant and is an academic at UCD Business Schools. Gerardine’s research interest in health care management combines her science degree in pharmacology (UCD) with her qualification and experience as a chartered accountant with KPMG. Gerardine’s research activity is in accounting for and the management of health care systems, and includes field studies of accounting change in hospitals, performance management of health care, mechanisms for quality improvement and health literacy.

Gerardine has been academic director of the Executive MBA (Health Care Management) programme at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School from 2005 to 2009.

Gerardine is the principal investigator for Ireland in the European Health Literacy Survey and is supervising a PhD study in health literacy. Gerardine has been chairperson of the judging panel for the Crystal Clear MSD Health Literacy Awards 2008-2011.
