Orla is chairperson of the Irish Practice Nurse Association. A nurse graduate from University College Hospital Galway she chose the career path of practice nursing in 1997. She received her Diploma in Nursing from NUI Galway in 2000 and followed this with a Master of Science (Women’s Health) in 2004 at the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin. She is currently working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Knock Medical Centre.

Her special interests include women’s health, chronic disease management, health promotion and education. Orla is also a course tutor with the Irish College of General Practitioners on their cervical screening course and a member of the Mayo Primary Care Implementation Steering group. In her spare time Orla is a regular badminton player, walker and runner, she is a keen GAA fan. She is actively involved in youth work at a local level in Ballyhaunis as chairperson of the local No Name Club a National Voluntary Youth Organization founded in 1978 which enables young people to organize and enjoy positive alternatives to alcohol and drug centered activities.
